Real 2026 pricing for Sydney trades, what the work actually involves month to month, and the one thing SEO cannot fix for a local business.
If you run a trade business and you want to know what SEO will cost you each month, here is the honest version.
Most tradies in Sydney pay between $400 and $1,000 a month for ongoing SEO. At Golden Marketing, SEO and Content is $400 to $800 a month with no lock-in contract.
Below roughly $300 a month you are usually buying automated reports with very little real work behind them. Above about $1,500 a month you are being priced as though you were a national brand rather than a local trade.
SEO is priced as a monthly retainer because it is ongoing work rather than a job with a finish line. Your competitors keep publishing, Google keeps changing, and a site left alone slowly slides. That is the honest reason it is not a one-off fee.
This is the bit most SEO invoices are vague about, which is exactly why people suspect they are being taken for a ride. Here is what the money buys on a real trade account.
Page titles, meta descriptions, headings, internal links, page speed, and making sure each service you offer actually has its own page. Most tradie websites we take over have one page trying to rank for eight different services, and that page ranks for none of them.
Nobody searches for "quality electrical solutions". They search for "electrician Dee Why" or "blocked drain Frenchs Forest". A surprising number of tradie websites never name the suburbs they work in, which makes it very hard for Google to connect them to a local search.
This is the part most people do not expect, and on our own client data it is the part that works hardest. Articles answering real customer questions consistently outrank the service pages on the same topic, because someone researching a problem clicks a guide, not a sales page. If your SEO provider is not writing anything new, you are paying a maintenance fee.
Categories, services, service areas, photos and posts. This is the cheapest and fastest lever a trade has, and it is routinely left half filled in.
What moved, what did not, and what is planned next. In plain English, with enquiries as the number that matters rather than impressions.
When you search "electrician near me", the block of three businesses with a map above the normal results is the map pack. For a local trade that is where most of the clicks go.
Your website barely affects whether you appear in it. The map pack is ranked mostly on how close you are to the person searching and on your reviews. You cannot move your business closer to someone, which leaves reviews as the lever you control.
We have watched this across our own client accounts. Pages sitting at position eight or nine on the normal results, with strong content, still collect almost no clicks, because the map pack sits above them and takes the traffic. It is not a content failure. It is the shape of the results page.
What this means for your money. If you have very few Google reviews, a review system will do more for your phone ringing than another month of SEO will. Any provider worth paying should tell you that before they take a retainer off you, even though it makes them less money in the short run.
SEO still matters, because plenty of valuable searches have no map pack at all. Research searches, commercial and B2B work, and anything where somebody is comparing options before they call all land on the normal results. That is where a good article earns its keep.
Two quotes for the same service can be hundreds apart for reasons that are perfectly legitimate.
Most trade businesses see rankings move within about three months, and meaningful enquiry volume somewhere between six and twelve. A brand new site takes longer than an established one. Results vary with your trade, your area and your competition, so treat any specific promise with suspicion.
The rough sum worth doing is this: work out what an average job is worth to you, then ask how many extra jobs a month would cover the fee. For a lot of trades the answer is one, sometimes two. That is a far more useful question than "how many keywords will I rank for".
SEO and Content is $400 to $800 a month, no lock-in and no setup fee. Where you land in that range depends on how many services and suburbs we are working on and how much needs fixing to start with.
It covers the on-page work, local wording, new articles each month, Google Business management, and a monthly report written in plain English. The review system is included as part of it rather than sold separately, because reviews are the lever that actually moves local results.
If you would rather see the ads side, we have written up what Facebook ads cost for tradies and what a lead actually costs in Sydney. If you are weighing up a new site as well, there is website pricing for tradies too.
All prices are in Australian dollars and exclude GST. Golden Marketing is not currently registered for GST, so there is no GST added to any of them.
Budget $400 to $800 a month if you want SEO that does real work, and expect to give it six months before you judge it properly. Before you spend anything, get your Google Business Profile filled out properly and get a review system running, because for a local trade those two things move the needle faster than anything a website can do.
Any provider who tells you the opposite is selling you the expensive thing first.
Most tradies in Sydney pay between $400 and $1,000 per month for ongoing SEO. Golden Marketing charges $400 to $800 per month for SEO and Content, with no lock-in contract. Anything much under $300 a month is usually automated reporting with very little real work behind it, and anything over about $1,500 is priced for businesses far larger than a local trade.
They do different jobs. Ads switch on immediately and stop the day you stop paying. SEO is slower to start and keeps working after the spend stops, so it compounds. For most tradies the sensible order is to get the Google Business Profile and reviews sorted first, because that drives the map results, then run ads if you need work now, then build SEO underneath for the long term.
Most trade businesses see movement in rankings within about three months and meaningful enquiry volume somewhere between six and twelve months. A brand new website takes longer than an established one. Anyone promising page one in thirty days is either targeting search terms nobody uses or is not being straight with you. Results vary depending on your trade, your suburb and how much competition you are up against.
Competition is the main driver. Emergency plumbing and electrical in inner Sydney are heavily contested, so it takes more work to move. A specialised trade in an outer suburb has fewer competitors and moves faster for less. The state of your existing website matters too. A site with no service pages and no local wording needs building before it can be optimised, and that is a separate cost to the monthly work.
Only indirectly. The map results are ranked mostly on how close you are to the person searching and on your reviews, not on how good your website is. Blog posts and service pages do not move the map pack. That is why review generation and a properly filled out Google Business Profile usually beat another website page for a local trade, and why any honest SEO provider will tell you to fix those first.
You do not have to. Lock-in contracts exist to protect the provider, not you. SEO does genuinely take months to work, so you should expect to commit time, but you should be able to walk away if the work or the reporting is not up to scratch. Golden Marketing works month to month with no lock-in for exactly that reason.
Tell us about your trade and your area and we will give you a straight answer, including if the honest answer is to fix your reviews first.
